info on bringing back muzzle loader from france!

i have been granted a 44 ml pistol, and these seem to be sold fairly cheaply in france. whats the law on me buying one there and bringing it back to uk and put onto my licence,

being legal in france how would they write it on my licence and do they have serial numbers as such over there

    cheers

It shouldn't be a problem but you need to get someone in France to write it onto your certificate for you. You'd then need to declare it to customs on the way back in. It won't cost you anything with EU laws etc. Once home, the local firearms office would need to be told, the same as if you'd bought it in the UK.

    Good luck and enjoy!

It seems so easy that there just has to be a very nasty KUTA there somewhere.

So why don't MORE folks do it and get the bargains that the johnny-foreigners enjoy for substantially less than we have to pay here?

I have heard that blackpowder guns and .22"RF rifles are not subject to any laws of possession in France, and Blackpowder guns are sold in toy shops.

If that is true there is no problem transporting them on the continent. If you have a slot on your FAC then you can bring one back and the Customs & Excise will inform your Firearms licensing Department.
I would also inform them myself to be on the safe side.

Since you are in France and subject to their laws I would assume that it is necessary for you to write the details on your FAC for the benefit of the UK Customs.

I did a similar thing in the past but I would now at least notify the FLO before buying it and they may tell you to get an import licence from Revenue and Customs. There's not likely tax to be paid but it shows a paper trail that bureaucrats so love.

I would like to know what the outcome is so please keep us posted.

As far as 22's go, you do need a document to possess in France but I can't remember the details.

My friend had a bolt action Black Powder rifle posted directly to him from the French suppliers, no paperwork. FLO just said to enter on his ticket directly. Nae worries.

Got my Martini Henry posted from the USA direct to my place of work, no customs problems outbound or inbound. I didnt pay any tax either. I phoned FLO, who told me you cannot write on your own FAC even if I had a free slot for it. They said to follow normal procedures & let them do the paperwork.

Just shows that FLOs all have their own way of dealing with things.

I entered a barrel for my AR15 on my ticket after I had chambered it. (Prior to chambering it was unrestricted.) How else could I have done it????

There is no requirement for you to write anywhere on your certificate apart from a signature on the front.
The boxes are for anyone else to fill in when they transfer ammunition or firearms/parts to you.
All you need to do after chambering a barrel is to inform your FLD.

Buy your gun over there and on returning declare it to customs ,They should then fill in your certificate and notify police then you do your notification and job's complete.

That seems like a very odd question to ask. Have you ever seen a firearm that does not have a serial number? France is a signaturee to the CIP just as the UK is - any firearm sold in France has to coply with the same rules of manufacture, serial-numbering and proof. Just like in UK, gun dealers are not permitted to sell an undocumented firearm, in spite of their rather different take on muzzle-loaders.

well not really, thats what a forum is for asking questions, why would something thats legal ie require no licence need a serial number? kind of equivelent to our silencers

how would you feel spending money on a trip to then find out it didnt have numbers to register it

and yes i had purchased a 22smoothbore shotgun with no serial number that had to be stamped on

I have a Martini Henry 577/450 that I bought from Fultons a few years ago.

Originally aquired as a section 58, it's now on my ticket.

I'm buggered if I can find the serial number.
