from dealer on the star, looks very nice correct sights.
I'd fill my boots if i didn't have it's twin. A bargain for such a beauty.
Well someone got it...
Went on Gunstar on the 29th, I was one of 3 people who "bought it online" over the weekend - and we were all gazumped by the smart cookie who went in first thing and bought it direct before they'd had time to check the emails, just had my money refunded.
Lady at their office commented it had been in their shop window for 3 months prior to being listed.
Air gun collectors stuck at home over Christmas, nothing but the wife to keep them company
this seems to be the gun of the moment, the bell target lads rifle of choice it seems, together with its relative rarity the prices can only go one way.
and i haven't got onebut i know a man who has one now, stop grinning you!

[FWB124s]-[ORIG45]-[relum rescue ctr]-[bell trgt maker]
I CAN RESIST EVERYTHING EXCEPT AN FWB,
I saw that but I've already got a 55MM with the barrel sleeves!!!!
The rifle felt very dry and was in need of a good service and lube, so being as he was something of an experienced HW fettler who had worked on many of these over the years it only took a few minutes to reduce it to it's component parts!
The piston had been filled with a solidified lump of blue silicone - some of which had been dragged down the sides of the piston. Once this had been dug out the cap head bolt ( should have been a counter-sunk screw) that had been holding the washer on the piston was found ( this had been crashing into the end of the cylinder),
The nylon (?) spacer that should have been between the countersunk screw head and the leather washer was missing, and the spring fitted looked like a semi-coiled snake that was too long - but very weak.
Prior testing showed huge amounts of dieseling with big variations between shots - the rifle was full of oil.
Once stripped and cleaned the washer was soaked in oil and ( surprisingly) seems to be OK. No suitable nylon bar was available to machine a new spacer, so as a temporary fix some suitable sized washers made up the distance required and a countersunk screw was re-fitted - along with the dodgy spring.
Now the rifle shoots with more reliable results and shows good consistency between shots, feels very smooth apart from that bent (dragging) spring.
A new HW washer/spacer/screw is on order to replace the temporary fix, and a new HW55 spring will be fitted as soon as a genuine one can be found.
If anybody knows the correct and original specification for a genuine HW55 spring this information would be greatly appreciated as it seems that most of these old HW55 rifle's have been fitted with the most inappropriate variety of springs - including this one - so measuring it would not provide the right answers to help specify the correct replacement size that is needed.
If anyone has a genuine HW55 spring they would like to either sell of measure this would be very helpful.
I think this rifle confirms that the going rate for a genuine "mint" HW55T probably is a lot closer to £350 than the £250 paid for this one, so this rifle was still a good buy and with the new parts fitted it could then be more accurately described as being "very close to mint" - inside and out!

........sorry about the double insert - not sure how I did that - maybe I.J. is close to the answer!
Anyway, I guess the summary of all this is that once the HW55T is fully refurbished it will still not have cost as much as the "going rate" for a genuine "minter" and so it was still a good buy - it just needs a bit of work to make it shoot as good as it looks!

Protek list a HW55 mainspring. Phone/email them to ask if it's genuine.
I collect vintage Japanese air rifles & vintage Japanese pellets
Information sought about antique firearms with Japanese markings, do you have one ?
hw 55 mm best rifle ive ever owned and still do it shoots like nothing else
alros 100 w
feinwerkbau lp 80
I used the spring listed by Chambers for the 55. Its on their website as the MS094 but on back order at the moment. The rifle runs at 580 to 630 fps depending on which pellet used.
When I ordered the new washer/screw/spacer assembly from Chambers I also wanted to buy a new standard spring and noticed it was "out of stock", and is the reason why I am asking for some specification on the original spring type so I can locate one elsewhere.
I did buy a spring from Protek last year for a HW55M but it was far too powerful so I took it out again and continued to use the well worn spring that came with the rifle ( not sure if it is the original one or not).
The performance figures you show gained from the spring supplied by Chambers seem about right to me, so that spring does "do the job", and if I can't find the same spring anywhere else I will have to wait for it to come back into stock.

I modified the internals to a double "O" ring head, one compression and one scraper and then fitted a shorter stiffer spring so the new dims wouldn't help!
Good luck; lovely rifles! May even get another someday when my love affair with BrumBows cools!
Venom did some great 55 conversions by the way and V-Mach will know all about that and may well be able to supply a spring and guide kit!
May today be the best day of your life and all your tomorrows even better!!
the 55 piston can be long stroked by machining the head back, fitting a bronze nose and using a 2mm CS O ring, the slot on the piston needs to be filed back also for the conversion. Add rear bearings and a 20g top hat weight and you should see 10.5fpe with 8 gr pellets.
I seem to remember hitting 74mm stroke with mine.
Last thing is the transfer port will need reducing to 2.6mm, do this with a 30mm m5 grubscrew, machined down to 26mm length and bored to 2.6mm, tap the transfer port m5 and blue loctite the new port in.
Utterly superb rifle when you do this, the standard spring will give 700fps, go up to a similar length and OD spring with 2.9 to 3mm wire for 10.5fpe

Airgun blog site airguntech.com Blog update: HW95 blueprint tune detailed, Colin Molloy contact details also listed
RedBob is having a mooch around Protek today, and whilst he is there he will also take a look see if they have anything suitable for me- I will let him have your spring info as it could be very helpful.
Being a target shooter, I have never had any need to contact either Venom or V-Match - but I have heard good things about both of them.
Can you let me have any contact details for them by any chance as I would like to see wht they can do with an HW55, but I am looking at having a go with HFT and/or FT this year and maybe their services could be even more interesting in this area?
ATB - Bob.
