Im a recent recruit to airgunning and took a trip to the airgun centre (my local) looking for a new first gun, had a budget if £250 cash on me ready tobuy, there was another customer in there buying something or other and it was just over a £1000 and they all seemed quite happy, one assistant asked if he could help, so I said Im after a new springer with a top price of £250 !

He said that that was areal cheap gun and I should look at the hw97 for £440 with bits thrown in, I said no mate I only want to spend 250 as Im not even sure Im going to stick with it, he then asked this other customer what he thought of cheap guns, right there I knew this was not a place I wanted to leave my money, the assistant didnt even try to offer me guns in my price range and almost left me and started talking to the other customer ??

I left and found TR Robb, nice old fella very helpfull and gives friendly service, then found an old BSA at a bootsale and as I was going right passed their foor I called into TAC to asked if they could complete a full service and id leave gun with them, the response was, we only offer that to guns bought from us , I walked out the door and will never go back.

And the good news is I have got hooked and have spent over £500 with TRRobb and Im just saving for a new HW77k YES from Robbs

Happy new year to you all

had the same experience in there a few weeks ago, after being told on the phone they had a large selection of pcp s/h rifles,i got there to be shown 4 rifles the cheapest was £1000,when i asked if that was there "large selection", he just replied "yeah"..i wouldnt even buy a tin of pellets off them after that experience,,let alone a rifle.....

If I was in customer service I would not want to lose a sale simply because I didn't like the prospective buyer's fashion sense. The idea of selling is to sell stuff, not to meet your future partner.

Why the hell should what someone looks like make a difference? I'm also baffled as to why a mohawk and tattoos means someone looks like a dick?

Completely agree. The kid is probably an older teen, where many of us went through such stages but the stupid gun shop people need to remember its these dudes that have the disposable income. Im thinking trendy clothes boutiques etc that pander to them paradoxially.
They deserve to go down the tubes with attitudes like that if they canot respect all potential customers.
Ive met more than 3 or 5 of these twats in my time......never had a problem witha kid with a mohawk provided he dont bother me.

its alright i get that attidude alot closed minds and all, just to clairify im 26 not by any means a 'punk' dress fairly smart most time and yes im covered in tattoos most done by award winning artists so fairly tasteful but doesnt change who i am

but back to topic it tends to be more snobbish to the air rifle shooters or so ive seen and experienced in the shops my local been a prime example even the lads i know who shoot have had similiar experiences

Sounds like they have made a very good offer and didnt knock off the secondhand value approx 1/3
What they have offered there is about the brand new price.

I went in a month ago and there was someone down from Scotland buying some rifles. He had bought some rifles in the past via post. I think he was stopping off at several shops on the way down and back.

Never been back, if the man cannot tell what stock he has in, I have no faith in his service!

After reading all the problems with customer service in gun shops on this thread I thought I'd tell you about my 'Early Christmas Present'
I saw a smashing deal on some 30-06 ammo for sale but the shop is about 200 miles from me but they said that if I had the whole batch, 480 rounds, they would include carriage to my nearest RFD.
I rang my nearest RFD, Greenfields in Salisbury and asked how much they charge to do a receipt from another RFD and the relevent paper work to record it in to them and out to me.
They said £25.00 and that was their standard charge as recording in their log and storage until collection and then recording out to the FC holder was all involved.
Now here's the early christmas present bit.
Then he said, Is that you Mr EMcC ? to which I replied yes, then he immediately said, in that case, for you, it is free as you have had stuff from us in the past !!
It was some time ago, and can only just remember the last time I bought anything from them.
I do know that when I did buy anything I was always pleased with the price so I was even more pleased when he not only remembered me but treated me as a valuable customer.
I shall have to think of something to buy in the near future to ease my concious

I last used Greenfields in Salisbury about twelve years ago, and while it came across as upmarket the staff were all very good.

    you're a spoilt bunch

We have no airgun shops at all. Just regular powder burner shops in every strip center.

It's the other way round for us here (well me anyway), I think we'de all like to be able to use powder burner more but due to our laws we're stuffed, I must admit I do have fond memories staying in Tampa on holiday and walking into a camping style shop in a mall somewhere and being greeted by a massive gun section, my eyes fell out of my head.
