    Tripod mount

    Hi all,

Been thinking, the Mrs struggles with the weight of my springer when standing and could do with a little help.

In the loft I've got a really decent Manfroto tripod from my photography days and I was wondering if it could be used to help the Mrs out. Thing is I need a rest of some sort that will take a standard camera screw mount. Does anyone out there do such a thing?

    Cheers, Jon

    Hi there

As im sure you know springers and bipods \ tripods dont work well together.

I have before modified a cheep bipod to use as a rest support enabling the springer to recoil freely as it should.

I have been considering adjusting my design to replace the rest (currently made of wood) with a guitar hanger which would look neater it would need a little design adjustment to attach the female thread to attatch to your bipod \ tripod.

i havnt yet tried it though or thought through how i may acheive this.

Hi you can fit a piece of spouting on top of you tipod about 3 inches long then glue a piece of rubber inside to ptotect your gun .I use the same tripod ,i have arm problems, and my guns are on the heavy side .Remove the camera fixing screw , and i used a bolt and wing nut.

I've seen something somewhere that sounds like what you're asking for, but I can't find it now. I did find this though, if you can get the yoke separately, and also this thanks to the pics of the Metisse.

HTH And I'll keep on looking...

There is also this rest, if you can mount a plate to the tripod you could easily attach the rest according to the blurb

You might also get away with using something like item number 140895607483 from evil bay driven into a pre-drilled 3/8 inch hole in a piece of wood if your tripod screw thread is 1/4 inch.

Cheers for all the ideas fellas.

I'm aware that shooting sprinters from any kind of "pods" isn't ideal but I'm keen to keep it easy for the Mrs. Seems a shame not to use the tripod.

Thread size is 1/4 inch 20, standard for most camera mount threads.

I think I'll look into making something with a nice soft bit of padding. The tripod has a quick release base plate too so a 2nd one can be bought and cannibalised without damaging the tripod head itself.

That looks perfect and the 3 inch width will take my Pro Sport comfortably.

Less than a tenner delivered. Perfect!

I bought a vangaurd camera tripod from fle bay than got the yoke and it screws in to standard camera screw mount. Been using it now for 8 months spot on cost about £20 in all more or less the same as the vangaurd quest with the 360* turn extends form about 3 foot to just under 6 foot light but strong and an £80 saving on the quest. Most of the camera tripods are the same. let us know how you get on would'nt be without mine

The "V" yoke arrived today ( item no. 130780898366), 7 days delivery from the USA.
Looks like its just the job for the wife, popped it straight on the Manfroto quick release mount and Mrs Beacon loves it. She can now hold the Pro Sport without toppling over.

Still yet to test it in the field as it were but I think it'll do just the job.
