...anyone got any info on this gun/stock ??

hi all,i need some info on this gun/stock.
its a mk2 eclipse, year not known, but ive never seen a stock like it.
it even has brass inlets for the front stock screws
im assuming its made of maple tiger stripe wood, but is it oiled or laqured?
i pretty much got if for free, inc the artec scopes, for doing a service from a mate of mine.
its been rattling round the back of his jeep for years.
now the stock has some damage and needs repaired/refinished but i want it
to be roughly the same colour/finnish as it it now,if not i want it shiney gloss.
its running at a very consistent 11.5 and is a joy to shoot!
anyone have a rough estimate on what its worth?....thanks

    pics should be bellow....

Stock: If its maple it'll be heavy. If its walnut, it'll be light.

Either way - its a nice gun in a very nice stock!

Overall form of the stock is not too dissimilar to a Vulcan special I had from the early/Mid 90's; also in Tiger Stripe Maple. Rifle was a Tony Wall special from his days at Sporting Supplies, before he went on to found SFS, from memory the stock was made by Gary Cane.

Its a lovely piece of wood, although Walnut would be my guess not Maple. Its looks very Venomesque to me, right down to the butt pad and stock screw inserts. Gotta be worth upwards of £450 in good condition.

yea im more of a tactical gun owner myself but this is just lush,it has a lovely yellowy gold glow to it.it shines above the rest of my collection..
i serviced a s16 for a friend and got it as payment.
no marks to the main tube but it has got pitting to the barrel and underleaver,i cant see any tell-tale venom sticker marks on it.its been shot with loose stock screws,no damage to the gun its self, but theres a chunk of wood missing between the barrel and stock at the front right, left has a slight crack...
i cant stop looking at the grain, various pieces have a sort of 3d effect, some are really deep like its feet away, lol, hard to describe...but im well pleased with it.

I'm pretty sure Maple is more likley than walnut; although in those photos its a might darker than most maple stocks, an early 77 I owned years ago matured to a similar shade over time, and the "3D effect", colours changing at different depths as you twisted the stock in your hands was always much more prevenlant on both the maple stocked rifles I've owned than the walnut ones, when ever you passed one to a friend they had a kid-with-a-kaledescope moment in the window.

If it is walnut with such a degree of stripe, the cost of the blank for the stock would be pretty phenominal as well.

Regardless, special rifle indeed, someone paid alot more than £450 way back when to have something built to that specification.

Eclipse customs are rarer than HW's, as the number of people who could have produced it originally is small, there's a small chance photos emailed with a plee, might get a nod of provenance from someone at or previously linked to one of the senior customising companies.
Worth a try - the "V" name adds to value at a stroke.

    webley eclipse

I don't know who made it but it's lovley. I suspect walnut, I have a nice merlyn thumbhole stock with tiger stripes on both sides & a huntsman with a dark american walnut stock very similar colour to it too.

Y'know- someone put a thread on here a few months ago with a gun (can't remember what sort) that had a similar stock to this one, trouble is that the grey matter is dying faster than lemmings at the cliffe so I can't for the life of me remember who it was

Hi looking through some old threads and found this one asking who made that stock. It was made by myself and it is Tiger Stripe Maple.

    Re-HW80 in the same stock

    Hi
I'm so glad I found this thread; Ive just purchased an hw80 with exactly the same stock, the action is tuned with brass guides, slimtech fitted, sight holes filled and re-blued by Sean at ISP in the early 90's and the stock is by Gary Cane, as stated...it's beautiful!
Out of interest; has anyone else seen another 80 or another model since production, other that the one in the pics above?
