Looking for my first vintage air rifle... advice please

    Hi guys

Never really had a vintage rifle and have a hankering for a BSA Airsporter.... Oldest rifle I've ever had was a 16 year old Webley Eclipce (wish I'd never sold it ).

Looks like the MK1 or MK2 would be what I'm looking for. Is there a good place for info on these online? i did a very quick search and not much came up other than the BBS and a few other forums. Any good strip downs online or in the mags? Think I remeber an articule by Lyn Lewington on servicing but cant seem to find it.

From what I understand a MK2 had the dovetail rail but the MK1 didn't? And these two Mk's sound to have been better made.

Any info appreciated. Looking for a .22, to be able to mount a scope might be nice.

Thanks.... I'll have a read on here now.

As you want to mount a (period) scope (?), go for a Mk.II -- job done (the Mk.I has no scope mounting pinches or grooves).

IF you can get the mounts.

If you want a real USABLE classic I would go for a HW35 (but then I would). Better trigger the Export has equally good looks , better scope mounts and, dare I say it, its better built. Spares are also no problem and cheaper.

    Thats just my opinion.

Their common factor is their superb Rekord trigger unit and good engineering.

The NorMay Vixen was a HW35 that came ready tuned in the 1980's. Chromed piston, spring, guide tube etc. and a guaranteed power level. Quite rare now. http://www.airgunbbs.com/showthread....ighlight=Vixen Theres lots written about the Normay Vixen on this section. Just do a 'search'.

Can not go wrong with Mark 2 Airsporter real pleasure to shoot, I fitted period scope as eye sight no longer good enough for open sights.

Not really like for like a mint airsporter mark 2 = £300 mint Webley mark 2 = £800. Nice guns but deep pockets required for ownership. One day i will justify the investment
