    Rare Webley Pellet Tin

One for the Webley specialist: 370778172350

Not a size of tin you see every day.

    Looks like a nice example

    Hello John,

Rare indeed. I believe there are also some small round 1970s orange tins containing 200 .177 pellets out there somewhere. I wonder what made them change the colour/calibre convention for this particular product?

I have seen immediate post-war rectangular tins with paper labels to identify the correct contents but have never seen either of the above obviously very rare tins.

    Regards

    Brian

    Hello Brian,

There are indeed some small round orange sectored .177 tins out there. I have one with a boxed D Series Premier. Have you seen any orange sectored tins containing 500 .177 pellets?

    Regards,
    John

    Hi John,

I'm afraid not. It seems to be getting harder to come across the rarer pellet packaging but that won't stop me from continuing the search.

That's definitely the spirit Brian. I've only ever seen one and that is in poor external condition. A bit like a miss printed bank note or stamp, I suppose?

    All the best,

    Hello,

The post-war 1960s green (.177) rectangular tins came in two sizes containing 500 or 1000 pellets. The 500 pellet tins are more common and can be found fairly easily. If yours contains 500 pellets and remains unopened, it should realise the top end of an estimate of £30-£50 should you ever decide to part with it. The unusual thing about the subject orange .22 tin in this thread is that although it has the same dimensions as the green 500 .177 pellet tin, it contains only 250 .22 pellets. This makes it extremely rare and consequently means a high price tag should anybody decide they must have it in their collection.

    Hope this helps.

    Regards

    Brian

Hi, the valuation already is pretty accurate, BUT...have you had close look at yours, and is the lettering the same exactly?, because if an earlier Weaman St. address tin (which to a casual observer looks similar), you can add 40%+ to that valuation.

The highest price I have ever seen realised for a mint, sealed Weaman St .22 tin was £133

This shows the "small" .22 tin style in question next to the normal .177 500 tin.

These are the larger tin variations...Six variations here, although they all look the same at first glance!.......from the top.......the top pair are earlier "weaman street" address tins in .22 and .177,
the next two are later tins, and the last two contain different pellets to the tin graphic, due to shortages of tins when packing to dealers requests, so have had temporary stickers put on to show they contain a different calibre pellet. Earlier Webley tins,up to the early 1970's,( with one known exception), are orange for .22.......green for .177......

    I recently got an unusual (but known) variation on the round .177 tin in 500 size (which are normally seen with a "dished" lid)....well unusual to me...the missus has long since given up with me saying;

"no...it's different...see....the lid is a different shape / shade / the lettering is different etc. etc."

    They just don't understand sometimes...

Still, It could be slight variations of rifles I suppose, now THAT would be really daft

Really depends, It will probably be more than it may have fetched now it has been flagged on here, but they have sold for well under £40 in the past year and I have seen at least 3 come and go on the bay in that period.

Probably the least seen, but on a par with the "wrong colour" tin mentioned earlier

Another one will turn up, and another and another...100% sure of that. It just depends how patient you are, and how disciplined...ie setting a maximum price in your mind and sticking to it!

I am guessing (allowing for the publicity) a price of £63.87

    Hi Ed,

I note the subject pellet tin is already at £72.00 (30 bids) with a week still to go before it ends.

So, it looks like it will go over £100, possibly quite a bit over.

That's supply & demand for you I guess.

    Regards

I doubt Binners would risk that kind of money to make you look silly Ed. A lesser amount, certainly, but not that much wedge.
