What makes a CO2 bb gun a firearm and not a rif?

Hi all - just a quick question. What makes a bb gun a firearm as opposed to a rif? I'm talking about 4.5mm bb compared to 6mm bb guns, the latter used more in airsoft.

Take one of the favourite bb guns that are about - the Tanfoglio Witness 4.5mm - what makes this a firearm and what makes, say, the Tokyo Marui 6mm a rif?

Is there a minimum power requirement that makes a bb firearm a, well, firearm instead of a rif and if so, what is that power?

More power makes it an airgun and therefore a firearm.
Under 1 Joule means you cant have it unless its orange.
You can have it as a rif if you are a registered Airsoft Skirmisher theatre or film director or historical reenactor.

So to sum up if it is more powerful than 1 joule you can have one.

or blue, green, pink, see-through - basically any bright unrealistic colour you like and at least 50% coverage of the gun.

A Gat doesn't look like a modern firearm so nay not be covered by the RIF rules.

A little known fact is that the if you paint a powder burner orange, it will only be able to ever generate less than 1 joule. That is why painting things orange saves lives.

It is only in UK where our freedoms are taken away very quickly in knee jerk reactions like that.The Americans have more freedom.
