    HW100 BAR custom

I spoke to BAR today with regard to upgrading my HW100 an was told that AirArms had refused to let them use their cylinders in customisation projects. (affraid of litigation if a cylinder fails). All is not lost though, they have sourced another supply of cylinders but have to go through the development and testing phase again. In essence this means there will be a bit of a delay before they are able to manufacture new cylinders for the HW100.

Lets hope they get it done before Blair bans everything except sitting in front of the telly!

    Cheers

Did they say anything about how long it would be before they are doing the carbon fibre barrel shrouds/silencer again?

I'm tempted by one but read somewhere that they weren't that quiet, has anyone got one or heard one that can confirm/deny this?

    Cheers

I believe that the shroud is fitted over the silencer already fitted on the rifle .The end cap is taken off the silencer and the shroud is screwed onto the silencer. So your rifle will be just the same.I was a little dissapointed with the noise level of my custom HW100 but i am working on the problem.

Thanks for the reply, only problem is my HW (mk1) has an additional silencer that fits onto the end of the original one via a grub screw. I believe its a BAR unit.

Removing it and relying on the original one makes it far too loud for my liking.

Don't suppose the shroud will fit with it in place

The shroud is fitted over the barrel after the silencer has been removed (well mine did anyway).

With the shroud in place, the noise is probably the same as any normally silenced air rifle. Previously I had Jim Edge's HW100 silencer, which did make it whisper quiet. With the shroud on it is slightly noisier, but still within acceptable levels. It's about the same now, as my S200 fitted with the Air Arms silencer.

The shroud means that the rifle is now about 4 inches shorter than when it had the Jim Edge silencer on. This does make it more 'pointable'.

    Doug...
All generalisations are dangerous, even this one!

Webley venom are also supplying replacement resevoirs for the hw100. They are the axsor model tube. same number of shots as original but lighter. They were a little more expensive than the bar option but in my opinion they look better as they are knurled at the end and the gloss finish matches the action and silencer. I find the balance is much better with this replacement on my fac model hw100 and dont feel that a lighter barrel would improve the balance. I also find the weihrauch mod. very quiet even at fac levels. FWIW
when there's lead in the air there's hope!

The new cylinders look like they will be less than a week away, and i think they are going to be very well received . The Carbon silencers have gone through a couple of changes, mainly slightly better baffling and a new end cap that can also accomodate an extra silencer if people feel the need. The silencer is fitted instead of the original silencer. Also we are finishing the conversions for the latest Hw100 with the big silencer, allowing a new cylinder and leaving the original barrel with silencer as is. Plenty of options then, just takes forever to test these things and there is always a last minute hitch ( at the moment its the anodisers ( spelling?) dragging their feet)
    Thanks for everybodies patience

I'm confused can you fit the BAR carbon shroud to the new style HW100? (the one with the big screw on silencer)

Not with the big silencer left on The problem is the new weihrauch silencer is so incredibly efficient we cant get the shroud as quiet. Just not enough internal volume to work with . So you will lose weight and length , but gain a little noise .

    Steve,
Most of my Shooting is done off a Bipod

But well aware of length on the few walk arounds ,
reason it has a sling fitted

Thanks Lloyd, one more question, does the carbon shroud come with a new fore-end barrel clamp? (the bit where the front stock screw attaches and locates both the cylinder and barrel), as this would obviously need to be modified for use with the shroud.
    Thanks again
    Tom
