Turkish Tempests

One other thing I noted in my brief ownership of the .22 Turkish Tempest was it's tight bore which meant having to use a seater to push the pellets onto the rifling before the barrel could be replaced prior to firing.

This is not the case with the .177 version which requires no aid to seat the pellet whatever brand is used. As with my other Webley .177 pistols, I have found H&N Match seem to perform best with RWS Hobby providing a cheaper alternative.

Hi Andy,

Lighter pellets always seem to work better in my experience and like you I have found the RWS Hobby to be about the best in my .22 my pistols. However, I have found these to be a bit loose when used in the older Webleys but very tight in the Turkish Tempest.

Thanks Bri. Going to give my own Tempest a good thrashing tomorrow night at the club. Hopefully show those using German target pistols a thing or two about "proper" guns using nice big projectiles that knock hell out of the pellet stops at the back of the 10 yard range. (Dambusters tune plays loudly in background......)

Shot the Turkish Tempest again last night at 10 metres using normal one handed unsupported stance with the best group of five shown below.

Three of the four other groups held the black aiming area.

Hi Andy,

Hope your session at the indoor range went well. I have been regularly shooting Webley overlever pistols for years now so have had plenty of practice. I can usually get similar groups with my Webley Premier as I do with my FAS 604 although it's much easier with the FAS it's definitely not as challenging or as much fun.

Tonight was an unmitigated disaster for me and the Tempest Bri! Couldn't get a group for love nor money for whatever reason. Think I will be keeping with my Mk1 and Premier that shoot and feel ten times better anyway. The Tempest is out of favour and on her way to part ex land at the end of the week! As for 240 Magnums though, superb fun to shoot!

As for 240 Magnums though, superb fun to shoot!

^ your box is full Andy. guess at a loose grip screw or maybe the rearsight needing a decent washer under the screw head. Roughly grouping and then a wild flier is usually a sight moving. Another thing to look at is any wear on the barrel catch or if it's pivot pin is moving or broken. seen a few of these broken in the middle for some reason.

Don't go all wobbly over your Webley

You can see plenty of proof that the Tempest can shoot and group OK, so yours needs a good coat of looking at to find out what is wrong with it.

It is unlikely to be anything too drastic - even though it must be very irritating for you to be embarrassed by it on the Rivvy range especially in front of IJ ( the anti-christ of of Webley pistols).

Maybe one of the resident Tempest experts could take a peek at it for you?

Round 2 this evening. Only this time it will involve a Premier and Mk 1. As I intend to cajole other family members into getting involved with some good plinking action on hols, the Tempest, being tricky to cock anyway, will be replaced by one of the new Umarex Buckmark lookalikes which will allow girlies to load the gun more easily. Also remembered I have a red dot site knocking about somewhere which will fit straight on-board.

Thanks for the explanations regarding what might not be quite right with Tempest folks. I really need a low powered plinker that will allow easy loading though, hence the Umarex.
