I want to put a pistol away for storage; should I leave the gas caplet in or take it out?

It kind of is

Out, IMO, as it can compress and damage the seals over time. A day or so, not a problem, but if it may be weeks or months, or you may forget, take it it out.
Unlike PCPs they don' need the constant pressure to retain a seal.
