BSA Airsporter Mk1 in .22 - valuation help needed please.

    Hi,

I am after some help in putting a value on this airsporter. It has serial number GA2238. The bluing is in good condition. It has its original sights. Stock is overall in good condition - has a couple of surfaces scratches and small dings. Paint loss to trigger guard. Shoots well - surprised at how well due to its age!!

Any help will be greatly received.

    Cheers Ben

I would suggest a price of around 130 pounds or so and possibly a little more because of the good condition of the stock.

Whether or not the gun has been refinished at some time in the past will have a bearing on price also.

    Hi Ben,

I paid £170 for my Airsporter Mk 1 with period scope included ( mine has the sight rails on it).

The rifle is in good condition, it is complete and shoots really well with very good power and the three piece stock shows no signs of any delamination in the usual places.

Your rifle looks like it has a one piece stock (?) and has also had the black removed from the trigger cover at the rear of the cylinder ( mine was like this as the previous owner polished it) but this is very common and can be easily re-painted.

Every rifle is only worth whatever somebody else wants to pay for it at the time, and I have noticed the prices tend to go up and down a fair bit and as I am not looking to buy one at the moment I am unsure what the current value is - but as a buyer of this rifle last year this may be a helpful price guide.

I know there are several old Mk1 rifle's about that are suitable for restoration and/or repair and they can fetch £100 plus or minus a little depending on all sorts of things so I would say yours is definitely worth more than those!

Spare parts for these old Airsporter's are getting very expensive ( too expensive in my opinion) so it is easy to spend more on restoring one that paying a bit more and getting one that works well and needs no new parts!

With this in mind yours ( if it is working well and needs no new parts) should be worth something like £150 and similar rifles with walnut 3 piece stocks could be even more desirable and fetch a little more........but is is a buyers market at the moment!

I paid £130 for one in broadly similar condition a couple of years back. Mine had the etching still quite visible (can't see any etching in the photos).
    Happy Shooting!! Paul.

    Hello Ben,

As you are probably aware GA prefixed 'Airsporter' Mk1s date between 1954 - 1958.

I paid £120 for really nice example a few years ago which had most of its original finish remaining including the vulnerable areas around the breech block and trigger guard. Having said that, It was moved on by a friend so mates rates may have been a factor.

My estimate would therefore be £120-£150 in the current climate.

    Regards

    Brian

I got one about 8 months ago with a nice light coloured walnut stock. Trigger guard and cylinder end cap is polished. Hair line crack in usual place on one side paid £100.
