I doubt any factory rifles come in that chambering. Unless its an AR or a custom build it will be either 5.56 or 223 chambered.

That means its only proofed for the 223 sammi spec loads. 5.56 is significantly higher pressure. Some people use 5.56 in a 223 but I don't see the point.

What are you wanting to use the ammo for?

I use it mainly for foxes, had chance of some L21A1 rounds at a very good price

Mate I wouldn't use fmj rounds on fox!!!! You'll have ricochets all over the county! Stick with stuff designed for the purpose like vmax etc

what he said, if you google this you will find a variance of opinion..some wil say yer okey probably and some wil say doom gloom boom you will die.
    truth is somewhere in between

    5.56mm is not .223rem

the bullet weight will be likely heavier in 5.56mm if its milsurp and the COL maybe longer so more likely to have a heavier bullet jamming into the lands with a higher charge than the gun is proofed for, depends how your chamber is cut and throated etc etc...it might work..it might be fine
    but
    deffo not recommended
e.g a Steyr Aug maybe proofed .223rem but have a 5.56mm chamber cut so be fine with milsurp. same for AR variants.

easy answer is dont do it...cheap ammo vs the chance of damagin your gun or worse
Gun control means using both hands.

The Cornish don't worry about things like this in my experience
