    A special Original 75

I posted on this some time ago and can't find the original to bump it so I'll try again with a refresher as I am serious about recovering this rifle.

My wife shot in the late 70's in the GB squad and internationaly with an Original 75, it was one of the first into the country when she got it as she had previously been using a 66. We sold it when she changed to a Walther and its the only one of her match air rifles rifles that we did not keep and we now wish for nostagia to find it.
It was sold in Norfolk in the early eighties.

It had been shortened significantly, the trigger had been modded for a very short reach with a diferent alloy trigger bar, and the trigger guard had been skeletonised to clear the trigger. The cheek piece was built up with polystyrene and covered with grey sueude. The stock was the early type and when sold was covered with GB team stickers and equipment control stickers.
The action had been replaced as it had suffered faults so may not be the version matched to the stock.

If it still exists and has not been restored to original it is quite distinctive and I could recognise it. I could build a replica but prefer to find the original rifle.
I can email a picture if any one thinks they've seen it.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Man With Tools

    Hi Robin,

I have been actively looking for Pam's Model 75 for a couple of years now but have not seen anything that resembles it.

On the "number three bus" principle and the fact that winter is approaching fast why not make a replica and use it as bait?

I have some Model 75 rifles here at the moment and a nice winter project could see Pam shooting a Model 75 Special again.

This is when the "number three bus" theory will probably "kick-in" and the original Pam Special will turn up and give you the opportunity to see how good your memory of it was and if you have managed to make a better conversion this second time around.

The final part of the project would be to find some competition stickers from the time period and have them scanned and reproduced to see if you can remember where they were positioned on the stock. This could replace the "pin the tail on the donkey" game over Christmas !

Having reached this happy situation ( and Pam's Original Special makes a predictable re-appearance) you can then choose whether to keep your new replica, sell it, or use it in your current training project where it could come in handy.

    Thanks Guys
We are determined to find it and Martini has offered to host the picture on here so you can see how short it is espescialy as the guy stood next to her has a full size one.
It would be interesting to see how it shoots compared to her current modern Walther special (also a prototype) which is state of the art and Walther has now just started to do a production version of it.
I had thought of a replica, I think the stickers would be the the difficult bit, any one got a GB spare squad sticker from the 70's? I did wonder if the KNSA had any EC stickers from the Haugue Intershoots in the 70/80's sat in a drawer some where.
I hope its sat somewhere as it was and has not been restored which is so much the case now.

Wonky you don't know how close you are, Irene Daw at the 80's squad training used to make them shoot with some one elses rifle, "you are at a match and your rifle is stuck in customs" training. When they both had LGR's Pam and Barry used to swop rifles even though he was a lefty and she right handed!

    A final plea?

Well, here we go, probably the last plea before I give up!! Its been over 5 years now with many people looking for it, we've posted on many sites, local newspapers, clubs, dealers, you name it we've done it, even offering £100 recovery or even "information leading to recovery", and this still stands, but still no luck.

She has very trick modern state of the art rifles for all the events she shoots, and she is still winning! But for nostalgia she would love the one she had her first success's with.

I can email pictures if any one wishes.

    Best regards

Don't give up Robin - Pam's Model 75 is out there somewhere - probably with an owner that does not participate in forums (or maybe even target shooting at any club) and so is unaware that his/her rifle has so much interest.

....but ...with the search still ongoing there will be a time when it comes back out of the shade and into view and then hopefully it will be "discovered" and the owner may be happy to sell it back to you

    Hello,

I stumbled across this post at the weekend while searching for general info on "Original 75" Air Rifles. I realise the post is old now but I have some information that may help, if you are still trying to find the customised riffle.

    Thank you
    Scott

    Its Surfaced!!!!!

    Well what a surprise!!!!!

After all this time, ten years searching, and now the original special Original 75 has surfaced, a deal has been struck, and I now await its return!!!!

Then the work will start again, it will require a full internal refurbishment as its been sat in a loft for very many years, so a specialist is already booked to do the action.

The stock, I don't know until I see it other than photo's, but I will do that, hopefully just a cosmetic clean up, and of course its had the stickers removed, but I built a replica when I thought it was lost for ever, so I'm hoping I can use the stickers I made for that, and replace them on the genuine stock, if not I'll need to make some more replica stickers.

The wife is very excited and looking forward to seeing her old rifle again, the one that she started her international shooting career with, aren't we daft, she's still shooting successfully at ahem... (best not say her age!), and with modern high tech small bore, and also 300 mt full bore rifles, does not do air any more, but she's exited about getting back a 46 year old air rifle that started it all!!

    Have Fun

    Thanks All

    Thanks All,

Its the rifle that started her shooting career other than just air and local. And its a message to all, this is what air shooting can do for you.

She won her first National medals with it, and her first International medals with it, it led her into 3P, small bore prone, factory support from another manufacturer, and full bore prone, (and is still shooting them at high level).

But the one that is indicative of what she felt for that rifle is one not even shot with that rifle, she qualified for the Queens final at the Imperial meeting in 1979 with a 7.62 mm full bore, in guess what stock? Yes, a copy of the Original 75 stock!!!

So it will be nostalgic to get it back, but now a lot of work to restore it to mint condition, and as she last shot it.

Thanks folks for all your support.

    The work starts!

I picked it up on Tuesday, and have now started work on it, a big restoration, its been sat in a loft for 30 years, but externally just dirty, inside the seals are putty!

The action is out, and will go to a specialist for reseal.

The stock is a superb figured walnut, and its come up nicely, it was the first into the UK and it was for a GB team shooter, so perhaps they picked out a nice one. I've scrubbed the stock with soapy water to get off the years of handling, and done one coat of Danish oil. I will just fine wire wool it down when it hardens. I'm rebuilding the special built up cheek piece to how it was, then its just replacing some of the stickers, I have some original ones, and some I made for the replica copied from originals.

The action in it is not actually the first one in the UK, they did originally give her that, but it failed at the British Championships at Cardiff later that first year, during a shoot, so they switched the action with the one off their stand, and she continued the shoot, and qualified!! Good old days, when manufacturers had stands at our championships! So this one, same year, but was a month or so newer! But it is the one she then shot with for 7 years internationally and won with it, and later sold when she changed to a Walther.

But strangely by a twist of fate we also now have that original action that failed at the championships as well, very spooky, but that's another story!

I'm restoring the case as well, the international stickers on that tell a story as well, another spooky thing, the case has two locks, now having changed hands after she sold it and 40 years, the key had long gone, but in our old key box (every one has one!!), I found the spare key!!!!

It will take a while now, but I'll keep you informed when its done and see if some one can post pics of the final finished product.

Thanks every one who has helped, its been a ten year labour that has now come to fruition.

    Have Fun
