    Hw80 shims

Sent the 80 off to Richard H for a screw cut and really can't wait to get it back, get my Welsh Willy kit in a get out with it. However I did notice with the barrel broken there is some slight sideways movement. Seems solid when locked and closed. Is it worth some fresh new shims or not really?

Generally with the shims, if there is no visible damage, then they're okay.
However, as you have it apart already, why not splash out just a few more quid on some new ones, just for that extra peace of mind?
Moly grease / paste on the jaws, breech block face and thin smear on both sides of each shim, correctly tension the hinge bolt, and all should be fine.

It might also be worth removing the barrel detent plunger whilst it's apart. Clean out the hole, lightly polish the detent, degrease the spring. Then a little moly grease on re-assembly.

If the shims are dished or torn then replace them. New ones are a doddle to fit, old dished ones on the other hand aren't fun.

Tighten the breech bolt as far as you dare, the old 'tighten till the barrel falls under its own weight' is a good guide, then add another quarter turn for good measure.
