Question Spotting scope magnification for 100yds zeroing.

    Hi all,
the wife has asked if I'd like a spotting scope for xmas.
What magnification would I be needing for .308 grouping on a 100yd zeroing target ?
I'm fairly new to long range target shooting and will eventually be out upto 600-1000 yds.
    Any help would be useful.

    Thankyou.

I use a 20-60x60 but really only use it for prone shooting, on my other guns the scope is usually enough ,are you shooting open sights then mate

    Mauser K98, then Remy 700 .308.
the scope will be mainly for zeroing at 100 prone, then for prone range work later.
The 20-60 mag was what I was also thinking, Stroud & Barr.
