    Thank you Flogger,

I would be interested in the Letter Code and date stamps on the Premiers, if you could add these at your convenience?

    Kind regards,

    John

    My Premier

    Hi,

My Premier is stamped "169" on the front of the cylinder and the same under the left side grip, just below the cylinder. There does not appear to be any other markings under the grips. My father purchased this gun new in 1964 and it is a 4 pin model.

This post has solved a decades old mystery for me and I thank you! Whenever I was cleaning and oiling the gun I wondered what the strange markings on the left side behind the trigger were. I tried to figure out if it was some "W+S" marking or what it could be. Now I know...it is an "A" stamped over a "B". So I can't say if it is an "A" or a "B" model. I guess it is a hybrid!

I will put up some pictures of the gun for all to see.

Thank you for the thread and all the work you did on this.

Thanks Flogger. I'm intrigued as to why you date the Premiers as Circa...? There should be a specific date code under the LH grip. Month followed by year. E/g. 4 71 for April 1971.

    Kind regards,

    John

    John,.
    Looked a bit harder.Premier no.3869 is 1/67.Pr.no.445.2/75. Pr.no.1099.4/70 Pr.no.3321.11/67. Pr.no,888.2/73. Pr.no.511.3/67.
Pr.no.376.11/70. I can not decipher the rest. 302 has no nos. being a later made cast type frame.
I have stopped calling you dear john it sounds like a world war two letter to some poor guy from his girl telling him she is pregnant
    by another bloke.
    All the best for xmas.

Thanks Flogger - that makes sense and helps to build a database. Ironically the dates and letter codes on Premiers are the only post war numbers on Webley pistols that make any kind of sense.

Just a quick question: Your 888 and 445 - are they actually marked Premier Mk 2 or is the frame the earlier lacquered type with recessed sticker (that does not say Premier Mk2). I suspect the latter from the details you have provided but would appreciate your confirmation.

Yes, agree Dear John can bring one out in a sweat

    Merry Christmas to you too.

Thanks again Flogger. Does 888 have a letter code?

You certainly seem to have a good representative Premier collection. The pistol is among my favourite Webleys, not least because of the immense number of variations out there. Not just of pistol but box too.

    Kind regards,

    John

l also have an 888 Premier, its a blued E series, the letter stamp under the trigger frame is Z, it has the 888 repeated under the top of the left hand grip, but definately no date stamp (I've checked very carefully with a glass). I bought it s/h in 1972 and the seller who I knew had bought it new in 1971.

Its in very good original condition in the original box, I used it for NARPA 6 yd target shooting, until I saw sense and bought a FWB65 shortly after, but I have kept it as its what started my target shooting career.
    Good shooting
