    Those Were The Days

Following Garvin's recent age poll, I'm guessing there will be quite a few here who remember Mr Pastry.

Certainly do Brian. Also Amos 'n Andy in black and white, Old Mother Riley and Flash Gordon.
I am also old enough to remember Ration books, King George VI funeral and Queen Elizabeth's coronation.

It's a pity they aren't "PC" enough to be shown today, used to love Old Mother Riley!

Another target shooting game from the same auction and era.

I remember having a Hopalong Cassidy shooting game back in the 50s which used a multi-shot pistol firing stretched elastic bands via a ratchet system.

    recycling theme tunes . . . . .

I keep singing Champion the Wonder Horse when the ad for Domino's Pizza comes on the TV

Champion the Wonder Horse! Champion the Wonder Horse!
Like a streak of lightnin' flashin' cross the sky,
Like the swiftest arrow whistlin' from a bow,
Like a mighty cannonball he seems to fly.
You'll hear about him ever'where you go.
The time'll come when everyone will know
The name of Champion the Wonder Horse!

Great post, my lovely Aunty Betty bought me the pistol, without the cardboard cut out at jumble sale when I was a nipper and I always wondered what it was as it was very well made. She also got me a gun as I remember called the Johnny 7, which had a detactable pistol, stock, grenade launcher etc, which was a serious piece of kit for a youngster !

We were lucky enough to have one of the very first tiny screened television sets on our street in the 1950s which made me very popular with my mates who always joined me in watching the westerns after school such as:

Roy Rogers, The Lone Ranger, The Cisco Kid, The Range Rider, Hawkeye, Rin Tin Tin, Cheyenne etc

I also remember you couldn't move in our front room during the 1953 coronation ceremony.

As I say, those were the days. I only hope the younger generation can look back as fondly on their childhood as I did.

    Regards

We were much more upmarket than that. Our 9 inch telly had a huge water-filled magnifier in front of the screen so that it was really a 14 incher (but with bent edges to the picture if you weren't exactly in front of it).
