FAC air is great, the main plus point for me is its ability to buck the wind better than a sub12 will mainly due to reduced flight time and slightly heavier pellets 18grn.
It's definitely worth spending the time cutting your teeth on sub12 it will teach you all the skills you need to progress to higher powered guns, I still use my sub12s regularly specially round farm yards, for rats and pigeons. I'll never get rid of my sub12 rifles as I find them an invaluable asset to my hunting tool collection, but that said my Rapid does do the majority of the work I do. I only really get the rimfires out if I'm feeling lazy and can't be bothered to do a lot of crawling round to stalk rabbits, and the centerfires only come out if I'm after bigger prey like fox or deer, but I did put two rabbits in the bag with my 223 this afternoon both head shot one at 106yds and the other at 216yds it just seems an expensive way to shoot rabbits fun though.
I shot sub12 for ten years before getting my FAC and I honestly believe I'm a better hunter for doing so, as your fieldcraft has to be so much better to get them in range.
Enjoy your hunting mate.
