Firing the Martini Henry and a question

    Happy Easter Everyone!
Now I know the club rules - here's a couple of YouTube vids of us firing the Martini-Henry MKIV:

Now here's a question. Having fired several hundred shots through a couple of black powder pistols I have noticed a saw mark on top of the arbour right where the cylinder stops (they are Colt clones). I am assuming this is a gas cut? How serious is this? Is it normal and is there any way to prevent it or slow it down? I haven't used grease on the arbour but I would have thought the hot gas would quickly burn or blow off anything you put on. Unless it turns to carbon and protects it that way?
    Any ideas?
    Cheers folks
