I doubt that obtaining a license to own an airgun would desteoy the sport.. what will destroy it is the banning of informal plinking.
Most newcomers will have a shot of someone elses equipment before deciding to fork out for their own.. no matter which interest we are talking about... be it shooting or fishing or horseriding.. whatever.

Dont get me wrong.. I will oppose all legislation and I signed the petitions and replied to the consultation and did everything I could to keep the status quo...

Macaskill has promised legislation.. it would be naive to not consider the possibilities of the situation if it does happen

The big issue apparently is the implementation cost. The police have demanded that the licensing costs / subsidy will not come out of their budget but are to be provided from central funds.

Bollocks, Kenny's an eegit but, and it's a biggy, look at the recent corroboration debate; put on hold for further consultation. I'm not an SNP fan (despite planning a yes vote myself ) but it has to be said; these guys seem to be into consensual politics and the air gun thing is the same, still out to pasture awaiting a workable solution.

It's coming, but remember this was started by wur Tommy after a wee kid was shot dead by a ned taking pot shots at firemen. Labour the Nats, any contender in scotland is going to do something about air gun availability and ownership, it's a political fact, none of them can afford to be seen to go back on an electoral promise and all have promised to deal with it.

7 years the Nats have had the whip hand in Holyrood and in that time nothing has changed regarding electoral promises, from the SNP Labour et al, what has changed is the cops having the finger out big time, air gun related crime is at it's lowest ever level in Scotland and as a result the message from the SNP is far more conciliatory, the cops don't want to have to run a licensing scheme, as they consider it unworkable, and the Nats don't want to be seen to be burdening the police with unnecessary bureaucracy, especially since the police seem to be on top of it.

So, please stop posting crap on this issue and get informed, me, I'm down to my last 12 air rifles plus I've plans for more

    What's new?

I've been rummaging around looking for any recent developments regarding the new legislation, but I can't find anything. Does anyone know we stand at the moment, or is the new law in the long grass?
    I plink therefore I am.
