    BSA Mercury/Challenger TLC

    This was dropped off by a young relative 'cos he knows I like tampering.



    No stock screws. Side play at breech/jaws. Pivot screws gnawed.

    Here it is sorted and showing low 500's ft/s but breech seal perished.
    Owner does not want to go too far with action/stock so just a good wipe down with oil.
    Internals will be only if basis.



    Will be back after breech seal is sorted.

    The Merc' Challenger is one of my favourite air guns and one of the most elegant break barrels ever made too IMO!The maxigrip scope rail is an unnecessary pain ,though!

    I quite like the maxigrip scope rails - better than the shallow machined grooves.

    New seal fitted will chrono tomorrow. May have found correct sights as well!

    You can make a big difference to the trigger by polishing it, just the small area where the trigger & the sear connect when the gun is cocked, Autosol, Brasso etc.
