Thumbs up Early BSA ID please (with a strange trigger guard!!)

    Hi all

This belongs to an acquaintance on Facebook!

He has this early BSA with a serial of 2512 with no prefix letter..

It has a strange trigger guard that has split the stock

    Clicky

    And again

    Last one

The loading tap assembly looks different to any of mine too

Can't see the end of the lever but I think it may be the bayonet type (I've asked him what type it is)..

So if anyone could say what it actually is i'll pass the info on to him

    Cheers, John

According to "BSA & LINCOLN JEFFRIES AIR RIFLES by John Knibbs, its the 1st ladies pattern of the 2nd batch of Lincoln Jeffries produced
Manufactured and dispatched from January to September 1906.
Just too many guns! NO, I was only kidding!

Hi, The trigger guard looks right to me, loading tap too. I have one a little bit earlier than yours, and it's identical to yours.
    P.S.
I got the pics no problem.

    Smile

    Many thanks Baz

I've passed the info on, The chap said it belongs to his friend and that he may want to sell it, he asked me what I thought it was worth but I told him that I didn't know

I told him what i'd paid for a my Improved mod D and Standard mod2 (£100 and £130 for the Standard!)..

Would his gun be more rare or command a higher price for whatever reason??

Hi John, the early BSA's and Lincoln's had these long tang cast guards, and they were a pain to fit and inlet at the factory, so they fairly quickly went to the more normal type, so it is correct for this gun, as is the tap which goes right through and will be secured by a disc and keeper screw, or may have a knurled nut and spring.

    The rearsight is wrong, off a later gun,and the foresight may be too, but need a pic...they should look like this;

so I would say £120-150 is about right, but it does look to have been mullered around a couple of screw areas, so maybe some better pics would help mate.

    Hi Ed

The screw for the lever pivot looks to have had the attention of an angle grinder as it has arc shaped marks around it

I asked for a pic of the front but don't think i'll get one as it's his mates gun

    Thanks for the info

£120 - £150 sounds reasonable, may get more for it as the prices of these seem to be on the move and some on gunstar aren't of this world
