    Question Which gun?

I am a garden plinker and local shop's range shooter but am intending to have a go at HFT. I know the first thing you will tell me to do is join my local club and yes, that is something I fully intend to do. In the meantime, I am enjoying the research into various guns that may be suitable and within my budget. I have briefly held an AA S400 and an AA MPR FT, both of which seem a reasonable fit to me. My question therefore is: "Is the MPR FT better by £200?" As far as my ability goes, I believe that I can hold my own with better than the average shooter, given the same conditions. No, I'm not claiming to be an excellent shot; I understand that if I was a mediocre shot, the extra money for the MPR FT probably couldn't be justified.
Thanks for any thoughts on this. Dave.

    Which gun

    Hi Dave,
    Welcome to the forum
The reply I always give when asked this question is the AA S400. Reasons being...
1 very very good rifle in many combinations. Tried and tested design
2 relatively basic in design-not much to go wrong- easy to maintain
3 parts and accessories are numerous and affordable
4 specialist gun smith not required for service- keeping service costs lower
5 from sub £400 new. Lots to choose from second hand
    6 holds value well
7 single shot. HFT requires magazines to be removed between target pegs

Dave, this list matters not if the rifle doesn't fit you we'll enough, but many people use them to a very high standard so beg steal or borrow and try one out.

Btw don't scrimp on a scope. Buy a decent one ie MTC Viper 10 x 44 about £155 new

Hope this helps. You might get more replies if you post this on the general section and include HFT in the title

    Hi Dave

There are loads of guns out there, but if your sticking to just these two then I would not pay the extra for the MPR, I'd buy the AA 400 and invest the rest in a good scope that you can use in the future if you outgrow the gun.

    Thumbs up Thanks

Many thanks Chris, Dave for your help; you have definitely swayed my choice to the S400.
