    Ultimate Sporter

    Hi all

    Considering an AA Ultimate Sporter.
Nice looking gun in my book with some really nice design touches.

Wondered what everyone else thought and if anyone has one id love to hear some real world feedback.
I wish the mags and you-tube channel reviews would give the bad with the good..!

shot count in .177 balance etc etc all the norms
I see it dosnt have a regulator due to a fancy valve system so something like the Harper valve im guessing.??

I too thought about one of these, then thought, it's a 'twice the price' S400, in a different (better ? ) stock, so blew the idea out. I then thought the MPR might be a better bet, cheaper too.

    Hi,

One of the good things (for myself at least) is the simplicity of the valve in the S5/S4** rifles. AA haven't needed to make it more complicated as it works fine as it is. Yes they have a power curve as indeed does any unregulated rifle but its such a good one that most people struggle to justify the expense of 'sorting' it with a reg. A lot of folk report a spread in velocity of say 25 fps over an entire shot string. It might sound a lot but in reality it equates to 13mm at 50 yards and less than 5mm (i.e. a pellets width) at a more typical 30 yards over the entire string. If you only shoot say 50 shots at the sweet spot (say 12fps spread) then this means a variation of just 7mm at 50 yards! You get a lot more fills from a diving bottle when filling to 170 bar also!

Don't get me wrong. I will probably one day fit a reg to my S400 but mainly as an exercise in fitting/tuning it myself and not because it especially needs one (i.e 'just because I can'). I would love a US myself but unless I win the lottery I find it hard to justify one over my S400 and S410 as it is pretty much the same animal but if I had the cash it would be number one on my shortlist. I pretty much know how it will shoot and I love the looks. Find one in a shop and handle it. Maybe someone on this (or another forum you have posted this question on) will let you have a go of one.

Anyway don't get to hung up on valves and regs as IMHO lots of rifles work fine without them. You can always retro fit one anyway if you really need/want to later

    Hi,

Yes you are correct but the only difference between the S4** and S5** is the cocking method (although at one point you could get an S410 side lever .. doh). The basic innards of the rifles are the same i.e. cylinder/valve/springs/firing pot and even the main valve body (I've just downloaded the manuals for the US and the S410 and compared them and they share the same part numbers). As such the technical comments about power curve based on my S410 and S400 will still hold true. Same woman .. different dress (a very pretty dress though )!

Bought one last week and loving it, needed something light for HFT (spinal probs).

Over the crono it's giving me a good 45 shots from 190 bar.

I have one. Bought it on Tuesday but early days yet.

I spoke to Derek at Rowan Engineering and after a few measurements has supplied a Huntsman hamster with a longer bolt which I cut down to 72mm. It fits a treat and should gain me back the three points I dropped on my first HFT session with it on Wednesday that I was getting with my MK4. Really missed a hamster after being used to one.

A single shot loader too was supplied which will save me messing out removing the mag at every peg which is a pain in the ar##e!!!!!!

Very accurate rifle and with the adjustable stock and reasonable light weight should make this a superb HFT gun.

Try one I am sure you won't be disappointed.

To be honest the only thing I don't like is the trigger, especially having the safety there seems a poor idea.
but that's just me I guess.

Does a laminate stock need any special care ive never had one before.. ??
Having visions of it coming apart..!
