what kind of ranges are you using the loads at ?
and what kind of groups are you getting.
Oh and what is the custom barrel ?
Sorry I have not got back to you before.

The photo below was my final selection for the custom barrel - it was developed as a foxing tool and once the owner had worked out a drop chart and experimented with doping the wind he was comfortably taking foxes out to 250 yds at night.

The barrel was a Border barrel with a 10 twist.

    24.5g of RL15 pushing a 69g sierra match out of a 1:9 remy police.
One ragged hole at 300yds and good out to 600yds in light wind, though not for fox at that range obviously.

    latest efforts

These are my latest efforts at .223 handloads, taken at 110 yards lasered.(indoor tube range) 3 shot groups.
    N-133
    Fed primers
    Lapua brass
    50 grain V-Max .
    oal=2.245
the shot on the 24.9 gn target was me not the rifle think it would have been a tidy group otherwise.
these are all uncrimped, may try a few using the lee factory crimp die next.
the 3 bullets through 1 hole i dont think i will ever repeat ! 25.1 gn load.
    liking my T3 so far
    now need to find charlie.

    His is a 1 in 12 twist so I don't think it will stabilise a 69gn bullet
When I first bought my rem 700 which is 1 in 12 too I bought a load of rg ammo just for the cases etc but I fired them off....couldn't hit a barn door
You can pull the bullet and re use a vmax instead with great results but I just reused the brass and borrowed night stalkers load of 21.9 gn of vit 120 and a 50gn vmax bullet.....bingo

Just a thought....I dont load for 556 yet but.

Given the agro getting some powders, why not give RS40 a try? It is a dedicated 556 powder used in military loads. Nigel may well let you have a small amount to try.
I'm a maggot in another life you know
