'Lock up' is how well the barrel stays in place on a break barrel rifle, yours is a fixed barrel.
I wouldnt go shortening the barrel on a rifle as it may no longer be acurate after youve done it.
Hi all.I am after all of your good advice please.
HW 77 in.177. I want to know is ,they say a short barrel on a springer is for better ,better lock up?
With a 77 or a 77k the barrel is long ,so with this in mind and having a choke ,what would you think if
you were there thinking cutting it down ,what length would be right for it ,,,I'm only thinking not doing,,yet
I hope this starts up some good debates with you all.......ta chaps....Naffer...

I think he may mean lock time.

If you do mean lock time, I wouldn't bother. A very good springer shooter I know believes the extra forward weight of the full length barrel gives more benefit than the faster lock time, if any, of a short barrel.

I was only thinking of the "lock time" being better also a bit better for hunting and,not so long, and a bit of HFT use...
Lock time simply means the length of time the pellet's in the barrel.
Another two or three inches isn't going to make much difference. And, as Si says, a bit more weight up front might increase accuracy by reducing muzzle flip.
The carbine will be more manageable if you want the gun for hunting though.
