    H&N FTT in 22.

Until very recently I had no idea that these were produced in five different skirt sizes.

Is any one of these considered a safe bet for Weihrauch springer barrels, or do they all have to be tried?

5.53 generally for uk power levels, bigger ones can reduce ME by over .5 ftlb

5.54 shoot nice in some old Webley barrels

All the help I have to give, I'm sure there is more on these popular pellets

    They available in .177?
My barrel loves the bigger skirt.

    Yes good in .177.
I had some in .22 which would not fit in any of my guns.
Which is when I found out about the big sizes!
Older ones don't seem to be a problem.
But I now use the HW F&T Specials in my HW .22 guns.
    They are 5.51.

I thought the size referred to the head diameter not the skirt?

    Maybe it does.

I'm not sure, to be honest.

FTT 5.53 are actually nearer 5.55 head size, i have an old 77 here with an very worn barrel, its superb with FTT do to them being a little larger. I actually sized 100 pellets and found a small % were around 5.52 to 5.53, but most are 5.4 and larger...up on testing the larger head size Vs with the smaller 5.52 ones there was a marked change in accuracy for the worse.

The ones I bought were 5.53.
Your post explains why I could not get them in!
I use the .177 ones a lot but prefer the HW pellets in my .22 Germans.
I still buy up the older tins of the H&N in .22 which don't seem to have a size problem.

Thanks for your replies, but I'm still a bit confused.

Most retailers do not specify a head size. They appear to be offering one variant but don't say which one.

Only our sponsor specifies that the head size he sells are 5.53.

Are these the ones I should go with of should I buy Weihrauch F&T Special from BAR?

Whilst on the subject of pellets how many 177 springer users find JSBs better in 4.53 than 4.52?

I was down Keenes the other day and the stock of FTT they had was 5.53 on the tin, Sportsmans were the same, does anyone know of a supply of larger sizes?

I ask as I have a 80's vintage Webley barrel that worked well with 5.56 Wasps when Wasps were made by Eley and were good pellets, the current ones are garbage!

Get them from Germany. You can get 50 packs of sample pellets, and then when you know which are best, order in bulk.

It's easy enough. I've done it before with 177 , and I think I'll do it again with 22.

I use 5.54's in some of my old BSA's and had the same problem as you with lack of online info, in the end I started ringing people to ask what they actually had and got a sleeve from BAR as I remember (a while ago so maybe wrong).

Even some "airgun" shops were saying "does it matter, they are .22!"

i think you will find that the HW ft's are in fact made by H&N, take a look at the batch numbers on the label underneath the tin

I find the 5.53's seriously inconsistent over the crono but remarkably accurate!!..., bizzare.
