    Fwb 65 grip upgrade suggestions...

Hi, I'd like some advice please on replacement grips for my Fwb 65. I was hoping to upgrade to a pcp, but at £1k+ they are a little out of my reach (unfortunately). However the Fwb still shoots some amazing groups when I get everything right so maybe a grip improvement might be a good step in improving consistency. I'm 9cm across the knuckles ,but the 65 grip feels too slim. I have looked a Rink but welcome other ideas...

Oh, she could do with a service as well I would have thought, so any recommendations on that front?

    Thanks very much

There are plenty of used PCPs around far cheaper than that, look for steyr LP1, LP2, Walther lp300, FWB P34. All can be found at very reasonable prices, also the Walther CP series of co2 pistols are worth a look, I had a CPM, CP1 & CP2 and got great results from all of them and can be bought for bargain prices of £200 plus, CP3 just sold on here for £150 without a cylinder, so including a new cylinder would have made it around the £300 mark, LP1s can be found for around £400 + I shoot one of these and actually prefer it over the newer LP10, all that said the 65 is also a fine pistol. Grip choices will be limited due to the age of the gun and spending the £180 for a rink is near the value of the gun although as a Rink user they are worth every penny IMO.
    Steyr LP10, Steyr LP5,
Vintage Collection - Walther LP53, HW77k Venom, BSF S20 Match, Original 35, ASI Target plus lots more

The FWB65 was my first 'serious' target air pistol purchased in the late 70's and although my hands are not as broad as yours (9cm across knuckles you said) I found that customising the grips by the addition of plastic padding or something similar worked successfully and cheaply! By trial and error you need to add the padding and, once set, file it down accordingly to achieve a comfortable fit which should result in repeatable hand position on grips leading to (hopefully)tighter groups and higher scores. I still own the 65 but use a FWB P44 for competition etc. Better materials than plastic padding are available now however; 'Polymorph' available from Maplins is apparently the stuff to go for although I have not tried it. This may be a cheaper solution than buying a new pistol - worth a try!

Thanks for the tips - you are right I think on the grip upgrade not being worth the money so I will revise the budget ,pad out my current grip and increase my patience to find a good deal
