HEADS UP. Lenses for shooting glasses

Lenses for shooting glasses, either from the manufacturers or "specialist" outlets are at pretty imaginative prices, to say the least.

I've just had a couple of different strength prescription lenses made by:-

    http://www.reglazemyglasses.com/

Their normal price for a pair of lenses is £20 (same as for a pair of single vision spectacles), but at least once a year, they have a £10 off promotion, which gets flagged up on:-

    http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/

I've now had 3 pairs of specs plus the shooting lenses done by them and am 100% satisfied. If you have any queries, ring and ask to speak to Jamie (the owner). Very knowledgeable and patient.

At their prices, you can afford a set of different lenses for different lighting conditions.

Nige, if you have old frames to reglaze, your optician is obliged to give you your prescription; you don't have to buy glasses from him.

Just in case you didn't know/realise (as many/most people don't).

Not had an eye test in years, my company are paying for the test and normal glasses as I use VDU's a lot, the optician has offered to check my sight for pistol but cannot make the lens so is happy to let me know what I need,

    Lenses

Thanks for the heads up derekm. Good timing I am off to have my eyes tested this pm.
Can they make a 37 mm lens ? Do they need an example as a template ?

    Cheers

If it's a round lens, I would imagine they could make it from dimensions, but a template/spare lens is more certain, to get the right amount of chamfer. I sent my old incorrect lens in its holder (bought my glasses S/H). Give them a ring and ask for James; he's very obliging and was grateful when I mentioned I had put a link on here.

When you visit the optician, he will give a prescription for near and far. Unless you know already what strength shooting lens you need, you'll need to get the optician to check the parameter for focus at the distance of your foresight with pistol raised.

Thanks derekm. I had the optician give me a prescription for a 1m or so from my eye, and have emailed the details to the company. I spoke to a guy earlier, it may have been James, he knew about the bevel/chamfer.

They're a good little outfit, filling a niche in the market and showing up the conventional opticians, even Specsavers, for what they are.

I've had two pairs of bifocals and a pair of single vision sunglasses done, three right hand lenses for my old ex-off-the-hook glasses I used to use for shooting and now two lenses for the S/H Knoblochs I've acquired. First rate service, postage paid both ways, good "through the letter box" packaging and you can always get to speak to the engine driver!
    I wish them well.

PS Keep an eye open for their £10 off offers!

    Thanks derekm
I have sent off for the pack, I have a few pairs of readers that are now obsolete due to a cataract op in September.
