    Fwb 127/124

I enjoyed shooting my FWB today.
Finally zeroed it with open sights after being sorted 2 years ago!

It has a .177 barrel but a .22 action so what do I call it?

Engraved by Don Blocksidge and supplied by the Airgun Centre in this format from new.

Is it a Special or a Bastardised loner?

    FWB Sport

Calling it a bastardised loner seems a bit harsh

I think the only differences between the 2 rifles is the barrel and rear sight calibration (and stamping of course)

I would consider it a 124 Sport, the greatest break barrel spring rifle ever manufactured (IMHO) and shoot it with pride

    Well as 127 + 124 = 251 divided by 2 = 125.5, I reckon you have yourself an FWB Sport 125.5 ...

Dose it matter what you call it 124 or 127 there still one of the best german quality rifles of there time. Mines a series 2 -127, tunded by Will Gerke aka Welsh Willi and fitted with my prized Pecar 4x36 in a sportsmatch molunt its one of my faves, enjoy .

I got the chance to put a few pellets through my battered 127 last weekend, and it was a joy. It's easy to forget how good these rifles are. Six months lying in the cabinet, then the first shot feels perfect, still on zero, just wonderful.

    Thanks Chaps.
    Nice articles too.
I am leaning to 124 and if purists argue I will use Gareth's suggestion.

I just use mine with open sights and I should have zeroed it when it came back from being fettled.
I spend months thinking 'this isnt spot on 'and then sort it.
In this case thanks to Baz for making me do it and adding a final tweak to elevation!

And thanks to Peter for sorting the internals.
And Mark for the stock refurb.

The gun is a delight and more so because when I found it it was neglected ,missing its foresight ,with a
    broken trigger blade and safety.

I knew nothing about these guns then but its style and appeal shone through.

I have a 124 with a .22 barrel so same issue sort of.As the serial number is on the action that is the true model but in terms of shooting i would use the cal designated name.
Either way good rifles all the same even if over priced still to this day.

    That's interesting.
Not heard of the other way round.

    Maybe we should swap?
But the then you would have the 124 which sells for more so no.

I've come across quite a few of these 'mongrel' Sports over the years, all of them tuned by one or other of the '80s tuners, Venom, Mastersport, Bowkett. I think they must have just used whatever bits were to hand rather than started off with a new rifle, because there's absolutely no difference between a 127 or 124 cylinder.

There were also some new Sport cylinders floating around without barrels - Chris H was selling some a few years ago, which I'm guessing came from Dennis Hiller.

In British slang an anorak is a person who has a very strong interest in niche subjects.

Mongrel was the word I was searching for in my original post.
In the context of best of both breeds, of course!
