As for spares, I may literally have a case full of them in the form of a pair of MK.II's both in the need of some repair.
I was going to get then done up by a gunsmith, but I'm now seriously considering selling them as spares or "one can make the other good".

I think I only need about three parts to make them both good, but then there is the added expense of getting them fixed by a pro.
I'm going to do some serious thinking about that, as I don't really want to separate them....must be getting sentimental in my old age!
    Thanks again,
    Paul.

P.S. Pete...I'm sorry, but I seem to be hogging your thread..wont happen again.
    Paul,
Please do not break these for spares. I can repair them for you as long as J K has all the parts needed, which he usually has. I am only in Telford so you can bring them to me for assessment.
Please pm me if you want this.
    Pete.

    Pete.
    PM'd you Pete,

Seems I am in the wrong "Whitchurch".

When I get my act together, I will sell both MKII's here on the forum.
As far as I can tell, they only need 3 parts between them , and they are good to go.
    Cheers,
    Paul.

    Pete.
... I actually need ALL of the parts to put into my empty case, and make a MKII !

If you don't mind me continuing to hog your thread, I will work out how to put some images here to show you what I mean.
    Cheers,
    Paul.

    Quick update,
I sold the Mk2's to a chap from this forum, and he turned out to be very knowledgeable, and an absolute gent.

I wont put his name here as i didn't ask his permission.
However, I am very glad that the pair of MK2's have gone to the right man.

Still cant work out how to put images here...probably too much beer tonight..., but if anyone wants to see them (for reference), feel free to PM me or email.

    Cheers all,
    Paul.

Thank you for the spanner tip... I sometimes need steel bits and finding odd bits can be difficult. I have reprofiled some old spanners to fit various old cycle parts but never thought of gun use. A question though: would the old spanner steel require any 'specialist' treatment after reshaping? I am thinking about a grinding operation where the steel may get hot or wondering if the hardness of the steel could be expected to go right through the spanner rather than just be a surface treatment. I have in the past made various rifle tools from old screwdrivers and never had problems.
I apologise for what may be daft questions to those with such knowledge but ... you only learn by asking.
I am now thinking that other old tools e.g. adjustable spanners, wide chisels etc could be a source of project material.
    Cheers, Phil

Hi Phil, The hardness will go right through the section of the spanner, they are not surface hardened. If you grind to shape keep the piece cool by dunking in water, do not let the colour generated by grinding go past blue, or you will begin to loose hardness and by definition strength. Regards Daveh
If you dont do it today, you might not be able to do it tomorrow!
