Since there's been quite a few of these anomalies come up recently, I thought I would add a couple of my own mysteries, in case they ring a bell with anyone. Both are on rare pre-WW2 German collectables.

1. Strange numbers on a Tell 3 (serial no. 319)

2. A number that is almost certainly not the serial number, stamped very visibly on the outside of the breach on a Diana 58. The serial numbers were apparently stamped only on the inside of the loading tap cover and on the tap itself.
