    Tripple 7 in Pietta 44 SAA

    Hi, does anyone shoot a Pietta SAA in 44 cal with 777 powder?. I am looking for a starting charge, thanks in advance.

    Triple 7 is slightly more energetic than Pyrodex and BP - so start off with 20gr BY WEIGHT and go up in two-grain increments. Assuming that you are shooting ball. By the time you reach 26gr you will have noticed a trend, hopefully, as that load is about the same as 30gr of FFFg BP.

    You are very welcome, but FFR, since what you are doing is not reloading, but IS muzzleloading, albeit not using BP, you'd be better off posting any more questions in the BP and Muzzleloading section, where we speicialise in, uh, BP and muzzleloading subjects.

    Just sayin'.

    Just remember that unlike rifle powders its a compressed load, make sure your lever actually gets the ball seated on the powder. Some need a little help on low loads.
