It will be cylinder internal diameter. I was in the middle of a conversation with John and a variety of other tuners at the springer bash where they discussed this and many more things. I just stood there and nodded when I looked like I should do......

Indeed... 23mm dia cylinder, 83mm stroke, 12FP in .177 with very little preload... shoots like a 7 FP plinker...

Need to do more testing, but looking very promising... and I didn't even have to use an o-ring either

    TX, John?

Bloomin' marvellous. Although we wouldn't have been the first to think up the (even smaller than 25mm) diameter bore, a couple of years ago I kept goading Bigtoe into trying a 23mm bore HW95, which he was going to do........

Now, fast forward a couple of years and firstly Wonky did his experiment (if I remember correctly) and then you fine chaps Tony, NickG and your esteemed self are all pushing turning this theory into reality. Wonky's was mega air-efficient and all these further experiments all seem to point to it being 12 FT.lbs nirvana territory. Even Jim stated on a recent 23mm thread that this platform showed real merit and promise.

Please, please, please all you good chaps come and bring these latest incarnations to the June Bash!!

What seal did you end up using, JB?

Just think if this idea could be sold to one of the "premium" springer manufacturers......

Keep up the good work you awesome little "shed tuners"...... Your terminology, not mine!

Try 3/4" piston weighing 4 oz, 4" stroke, 1/4" preload on your standard spring and a 3mm by 7mm transfer port. Tops out at just above the legal limit if you up the preload to much above 3/8".

I have seen the future and it is Imperial.

22mm is more efficient than 23, and 21 is even more efficient....im moving down to 20mm next

The key is efficiency coupled with low frictional losses.

I'm sure you are right, however I've already noticed that 23mm is much more prone to combustion, presumably due to the higher pressures... I'm thinking that this will start to be a problem if you go too small, esp on .177.

On .20 & .22, not anything like such a big issue...

Briefly tried it on my .20 and it was surreal
