Thumbs up Baikal ИЖ 40 pistol

After searching on the net for information on the Baikal IJ40 pistol (or IZH40) I was about to give up on sourcing any more knowledge on this Russian Grandfather other than a few comments and notes.
All thanks too those contributors and especially to the enthusiastic members of the various Russian forums.
When I came upon the reference to it as the ИЖ 40 pistol the information flooded in.
Now google translate is a boon, but being a direct translation it makes for interesting reading, much like learning to comprehend Shakespeares' English, only much harder.
I have found a copy of the original manual but in JPEG format. The images are easy to understand, it's the words that are a challenge.
I will post up the images via photobucket for any interested parties.
If there are any members who might wish to do a Russian to English translation in word document that would be a decided bonus and well appreciated. Just not Shakespeare though, OK?

Well done on unearthing the manual for this interesting pistol. You probably know this already, but if you can convert your jpeg images to pdf files then there is an excellent free character recognition service on the internet ( http://www.onlineocr.net/) which will scan the pdf for text and convert it into a Word document. You can then paste the Word text into Google translate and get the English translation version. I tried it out with one of your imaqes (using Photoshop to convert your jpeg to pdf) and got a reasonably understandable translation. I would be happy to have a go at the other pages when I can find the time but I am a bit pressed at the moment. Perhaps there are others on this forum with more expertise than me who could do the job more quickly and accurately?

    Thumbs up

Thanks for the direction ccdjg, I will get my son to take me down that road when he visits next.
It could be useful to others with a Baikal model 40 or two in their collection, more so if they have a working knowledge of Russian.
I am happy to have it there for anyone to access.
