Cool Sussex Interclub HFT 2015 - Round 2 Results

    Hi everyone (again)

SIHFT 2015 Round 2 over and done – just 8 to go

And what a great day Ford HFT laid out for us – thanks guys and gals and thanks to the burger crew too.

The weather was unseasonably un-Ford like. No gales, though strong and variable enough at times to make you wonder whether to give it inside edge of kill or edge of plate, with decisions changing by the millisecond. There was no rain, and even a bit of sun toward the end of the round and in time for the badge ceremony. Talking of which, the new 2015 badges were present today and looking rather good with their white background.

Somewhat lower than usual turnout (49) and no Juniors/Primary class entrants. Hope the new UKAHFT rule (youngster shooting after the parent/guardian) didn’t put you off. Please let us know if this played any part in your absence – I suspect just other commitments/attractions.

Here are the scores on the doors. Please let me know a.s.a.p. if you spot anything you think is amiss.

Prize drawer winners today were :

    • Mike Burgess – the £25 cash prize, and
    • Jenny Stone – the Air Arms goody bag

Team scores today and points won under our new scheme are :
    Club Round 2 Total Points
    Oaks 283 24
    Horsham 280 22
    Buxted 276 20
    Iden Fern 243 17
    Swallows 264 17
    Ford 233 14

There was one error in club member allocation which had gone unnoticed at the end of the shoot. This has changed the team score totals. The above numbers are (or should be) correct. Iden Fern were 2 members light to make up their team so had extra cards drawn at random (collecting an additional 88 points)

Happy and safe shooting to you all ahead of Round 3 at Swallows FTC on Sunday the 31st May. In the meantime, I expect a bunch of us will be meeting up in deepest north Wales at Fort next weekend for the 2nd and 3rd rounds of this year’s UKAHFT series.

And finally …. For those of you wondering just how many of us managed to knock over the free stander, the answer was (for me) a surprising 28.6%. How on earth did I fail on that ONE!!! Rats

Got warned the wind here was dreadful - but weather couldn't have been kinder - thanks for sorting that out!
I though it was a great course and I'm chuffed to bits with my first silver!

Just wanted to say a big thank you to Ford AGC and SIHFT for not only letting the 3 reprobates/visitors from Meon Valley come along yesterday, but also for laying on what was an excellent day’s shooting.

I became “hooked” on the UKAHFT format earlier on this year when I did a few of last winter’s Southern Hunter Series, and judging by my colleagues comments on the way home both of them are now similarly smitten. In fact, they couldn’t shut up about what a great day they’d had, how delighted they were to have gained a couple of badges, and what a friendly bunch the chaps from all the Sussex clubs are. Needless to say, all three of us will be at the next round at Swallows (thanks Mike!)

Things we liked about the shoot yesterday:

    a) How welcome we were made (despite the three of us sometimes being a little bit “vocal” of our enjoyment as we made our way around the course!)
    b) That the wind at Ford was kind on our first visit, giving us a nice and gentle introduction to the venue – and even the rain held off! 
    c) The course – varied, interesting and v.enjoyable.
    d) Whilst all three of us typically achieve higher scores when we shoot in competitions such as the Central Southern FTA Winter League (different rules - 2 pegs to each lane, etc.), we feel that shooting to UKAHFT Rules presents not only a greater challenge but that it also gives a stronger degree of motivation to raise our game and improve our level of shooting
    e) The banter – as mentioned above, a really great group of people whose company and wit we enjoyed hugely

    Things we didn’t like yesterday:
    a) Not bringing a shooting mat – that concrete is very unforgiving on the elbows (lesson learned for next time!)
    b) Having to go home
    c) Having to wait 3 weeks until the next round at Swallows

ATB, Nick (fat fellow with a .22 )
