I think the police get a bit of a knocking. I may have been fortunate as I have only met one who was an arrogant **** - and I think it was just him and his personallity. I clocked the rolling eyes of his partner in my peripheral vision.
Be reasonable and polite and they normally respond in kind - assuming you havnt done anything to really warrant thei attention.
As for the "friend", I would have thought it bl00dy obvious he wasnt a copper....
