    Airgun Dealer - Specialist Knowledge

Leaving the staggering asking price aside, why is it that a shop that deals in airguns appears not to know much about them

I would be quite happy to get just over half that price for my identical UK made cased Phoenix Hy-Score with all the bits.
It's a pity people, particularly dealers, don't take more care over their descriptions. Could he get done under the trades description legislation.

The best I have ever seen was a Brecon antiques shop I have had good stuff from in the past, asi/ gammo paratropper repeater. Rare, multi shot said the advert, £375. Well there not rare, was my reply, do you have the mag tube no was the reply, so after some banter, how much did I think it was worth £ 70.00 max was my reply No I didnt buy it, and he never sold it has far has I am aware.

Many airgun dealers (not all) are simply in the business of making a healthy profit from their sales and hope the buyer knows what he wants and that there will not be too many awkward questions.
My experience is that when it comes to older or vintage airguns then they often have little idea about them, have probably bought them for a song and want to offload them asap. I try and avoid using dealers for collectable airguns at all costs because of their high mark-ups (I know they have to make a living) and mostly buy through private sales.
I think Gun* prices are elevated due to the high number of dealers operating on the site and this gives potential private sellers the idea that these prices are the 'norm' - hence the inflated prices. Probably a good site to sell on but not to buy from!

It's not so much the exorbitant price that's the problem, it's the description of the item offered.

agree , I did like the "rare - prewar german underleaver a few years back., cant tremeber the price but was high for what it was a late model bsf 54 underleaver, not pre war and not that rare really, I contacted the dealer but was more or less told to f myself, so I contacted GS to let them know to my mind it was an intentional deception due to the vendors description which I had tried to correct.

It would be interesting to offer him one for sale and see what you get offered?

I think most of us accept dealers have to make a profit to survive, but even when the descriptions are reasonably accurate, some just extract the urine.

Without knocking any gunshop, this one does seem to sell their stock and I think it is down to internet advertising. For example, I have a really nice BSA Airsporter MK2 on here for £165, that has seen little to no interest This shop have 3 in similar condition, varying from £325 - £375, just about double the price, but they will go first.

    Good luck Bargain Hunters!!!

Yes totally agree, however your airsporter would have gone in days if you were prepared to post it
