Gamekeeper phoned me yesterday to ask me to keep an eye on pens in one of the woods that surround part of local shoot as he released 200 young Pheasants yesterday and when he went back a few hours later half had been shot with a .22 air rifle

I do of course suspect kids as the thought of an adult carrying out such a callous act is a bit depressing

The police have been notified and have shown an interest which is encouraging

Theres no houses anywhere near this particular wood and access is restricted, there is a footpath that passes about 100yds away so probably how they got there, however they would have had to have come along the old A2 to access the footpath, unlikely if they were carrying airguns

Baz, what makes you think air rifle? It would be far easier to cross the road with an air pistol concealed in a jacket etc.... I take it these pheasant where in pen, so easy pot shot with a pistol, no scope needed?
