Metal (stock bolt) to wood binding

A mate brought me over tonight his old BSA Breakdown (c 1935) as he was trying to dismantle it and didn't know how. It seemed a simple enough task to remove the stock bolt. But it was stuck tight. The already cracked front part of the stock came off and we could see how the rear of the cylinder/trigger unit could move quite freely 20 - 30 degrees on the metal threads but that it seems like the bolt is stuck tight to the wood in the stock. (Due to a lug welded to the end of the trigger unit, it couldn't fully rotate and allow us to remove it that way.)

While the stock is probably knackered, split at the front etc , as it's a cherished airgun due to it belonging to his dad who died only last year, I don't want to do anything to completely wreck it. There seems to be a fairly strong smell of mineral oil as well which has maybe contributed to the wood swelling???

Any advice please on how to remove a bolt that is stuck firmly to the wood that it passes through?

    Thanks in advance

Thanks for this Dave ... I have never had major problems with stock bolts but just love 'how to' snippets like this. It is now filed away 'just in case'.
    Cheers, Phil

Thanks Dave. And of course in this instance (and many others) the lion's share of the credit goes to Eddie, for it is his expertise that makes it so very useful...
