Don't tease. Which auction, and what were the pistols. If it was a Lincoln, a Westly Richards Highest Possible Concentric, an Abbas Major and two Tel 3s, then it doesn't sound too bad all of a sudden. (I bet it wasn't though)
The South of England has 2 good things, the M1 and the A1. Both will take you to Yorkshire.

One of those Senior pistols, looks like a late model Junior to me!

Maybe it was the rare .25 cal spare barrel that did it! :

l have to agree Danny on the oil bottle, but it was a bloody expensive bottle l know these are realy rare, and as the pistols weren't in that good a condition and only 1 senior at that, £650 hammer price over £750 with extras.

Looks like a screw top to the oil bottle, the second such example which has come to light. The instructions on the rear may differ to corked bottles in that the one known screw top references the Webley Mk3.

    A very desirable item!

I wasn't a million miles off with my first guess then

Would have been quite a good buy at the auctioneers estimate though......
