    Lubricting a newly blued cylinder

I've had a very rough Cadet Major professionally re-blued and am about to reassemble and lubricate according to the spring gun tuning guide on here. However the internals of the cylinder are now blued.

Does anyone know if dry-slide moly will bond to a blued surface the same as it does to bare metal?

In the absence of expert knowledge I figure I have the following options:

1: Remove the internal blue back to steel (major ball ache) and lubricate exactly according to the guide.

2: Lubricate the insides with dry-slide as per the guide and see how it goes. If it works - good, if it doesn't - I expect the blue will wear away and then I can re-lubricate as per the guide.

3: Lubricate the cylinder with something different / more suitable to this finish - suggestions welcomed!

(I'm convincing myself option 2 is the way to go.)

    Cheers,

    Tom

Ha, ha, ha, excellent. I always forget this and never remember to put old gear on when I do it. Job now done.

The question is.. is dry slide the proper lubricant to use with a leather piston seal?

If it's burnished into the cylinder wall properly and supplemented with a little good quality grease, it will be fine. Dry slide, or some other Moly compound should also be applied to the tail end of the piston too.

    Caution

I have a tin - spray - of moly - and whatever solvent its carried in from this maker - stripped my blue right back . .. in future will use it from a good distance , not 3 inches away
