shooting HFT when not in a club?

    Hi
It seems full time work, a long commute and being a part time dad does not allow enough time to get back to my old club (closer to work) or start anew at a new club (closer to home).

So thinking about whether I can compete as an unaffiliated individual? Presume I will need my own insurance as will not have club cover? If so what are my options, it would be good if it also covered pest control.

    Thanks
    Rich

You do not have to be a club member to shoot an HFT competition. Clubs I have visited include Cambridge (member), Kibworth (was a member at one time), Lea valley, MAD and a couple of others. All welcomed 'guest' shooters with open arms, and have no requirement that a guest has his or her own insurance. Expect to pay a higher entrance fee than club members and if you are a newcomer to HFT, let them know and you will be placed with an experience HFT shooter. Then just enjoy it.
    Cheers, Phil

Some clubs offer "country" membership, like you get in golf. You are a member and pay a reduced subs as they know you are not going to be a drain on resources.

Most HFT and FT events allow you to shoot a void card so long as they are not fully subscribed.

Insurance is ALWAYS a good idea irrespective of what you do/shoot.

Dedicated cover is a good idea and there are plenty too choose from.

They vary in costs but if you are doing pest control, SACS allows you to charge a fee so long as it does not exceed £500 in a 12 month period. This should be fine for amateur shooters. Inadequate for professionals.
