Michael Horne - Birmingham & Staffordshire Collector and Shooter

It will come as a terrible shock to all the many shooters who knew Mike (also known as Mick) Horne but Mike died very suddenly late on Monday evening.

He had come back from a visit to his eldest son in the USA and had been shooting at Rough Wedge and at Sutton Coldfield last week.

Mike was a regular shooter at Rough Wedge for FT and to Sutton Coldfield for indoor paper-target shooting. He has also shot at Millride, Penkridge, Aldersley and the Greyhound plus he had taken part in bell-target shooting.

Mike was a keen collector and was a key figure in helping me to run the Sutton Coldfield collecting fairs. He specialised in collecting pre-war BSAs, all Webley springers and M&G Originals. As a model-engineer, he could make parts and restore guns.

He was a regular customer at Sandwell Field Sports, City Air Weapons, Sporting Supplies and Shooting Supplies. Mike taught shooting to young people and disabled people.

He was a big man with a big personality and his leather stetson on top of long hair made him instantly recognisable. His son Andy is an FT shooter, his son Chris is an airsofter and his son David shoots in the USA.

I agreed with his sons that a notice on AirgunBBS was the best way to reach the many shooters who knew him.

Anyone wanting further information is very welcome to PM me.

Many thanks to everyone who attended Mike's funeral, everyone who could not attend but sent best wishes and everyone who gave donations to charity in Mike's name.
