Does anyone use Magtech 12 bore brass cases?

    HI

If anyone uses this type of case I would be interested to know how you get on with them.

A friend of mine told me he had bought some Magtech 12 bore brass cases. I assumed they had a thick wall similar to a standard shotgun cartridge and I was surprised to see how thin the wall is.
A 12 bore wad is a very slack fit in the case. A soft felt wad might do the job, but I am concerned that if he fits a larger diameter wad to suit the case he might put his breech pressures up or blow the gun up when the bigger diameter wad tries to get through the forcing cone. I have advised him not to load any up yet.

I once had a Greener SBS chamberless shotgun, these Magtech cases would have been ideal for that. If a standard 12 bore cartridge was fired in the Greener it split from end to end, so there is quite a difference between the standard case internal diameter and the Magtech brass ones.

The Magtech cases are for fibre wad only and for 12 bore you use an 11 bore wad and over powder card with an 10 bore over shot card.

I use felt wads in my brass sg cases. Plastic can't generally be used as they are too small
and don't seal the powder in place. As above, felt wad with card disc over the powder.
I usually make my own wads too, That way I get the diameter just right...

And yes you're right the brass is very much thinner than plastic cases. Also I do not crimp
the over-shot card into the top of my brass. I use a tiny amount of cyanoacrilate? adhesive.
I get folks giving me dirty looks when I tell them this BUT a small drip of glue dries solid breaks
away cleanly and leaves very little residue on the case. I have brass cases I have been using
for years. so this works well for me.

Thank you for your comments. It is a bit clearer now.

Are you loading brass cases with smokeless powder or blackpowder?

I use both. I use normal BP in my brass 410 cases. with No5 lead shot. and also I use
pyrodex RS in them. Pyrodex RS and pyrodex P are primarily muzzle-loading powders. But
I use them in my brass.

I used Magtech brass years back, sold them when fellow club-members got the 'ump about the noise of Black Powder shotshells. Regretted selling them.

They should last more or less indefinitely. Circlefly make great oversize wads.

Don't use these glues, olde-fashioned WaterGlass is much better.
