Pre War Webley Senior pistol in smooth bore ,boxed with extras

    SOLD
As title. I have taken a great deal of advice on the price I should ask for this and the range seems to be between £400 and £450. My price is £400 to include the box, all the leaflets and a post war tin of .22 pellets and a (damaged) packet of 11 darts.
The details of the pistol are as follows
    Serial number is S9483
Smooth bore-marked with the S just above the muzzle.
A few marks just above the cocking lever as a result of past 'impatient' latching.
The front screw on the right hand side has slight damage.
    Bakelite grips undamaged.
All in all this pistol is in really excellent condition irrespective of its age but FOR its age the condition is remarkable.
Extras include price list, old cardboard pellet box with paper cover and anything else I can find.
    Any questions please ask.
Price £400 plus post Personal pick up is clearly preferred but I will post but only by Royal Mail Special Delivery.

Congratulations Barry. A very nice pre-war 'Slant Grip' Senior with some interesting pre-war accessories and paperwork which together with the box are probably worth almost as much as the pistol itself.

    Regards

    Brian

    Thank you Brian.
The pre War Webley Senior with original box including parts & price list is in very very good condition.
The bonus is all the Webley accessories ,the two most interesting are Webley orange .22 sample pellet envelope printed with No 1 bore (should be No2 bore).
& the 1947 to 1950 post War Webley orange .22 card pellet box apparently rare.
    Thank you for your interest.
    Regards Barry

Yes, well done on your purchase Barry. The card pellet box is indeed rare and I only know of a small number of examples.

One question - Is there an S (for Smoothbore) stamped on the front (not the side) of the barrel pivot?

    Kind regards,

    John

    Hi John
No 'S' on the end of the barrel, only S for Senior & .22 on the side of the barrel.
I have never seen 'S' for smoothbore on the front of a Weblely pistol barrel must be rare ?.
    Regards Barry

Thanks for checking Barry. I'm starting to wonder if the S is on old airgunner's tale! Can't quite remember where I heard/read it but this Senior is the first smoothbore version I have encountered and it was an ideal opportunity to check. I know Juniors were never marked with an S and it's bugging me that I don't recall where the source of that thought at the back of my mind originates!

    Kind regards,

    John

One of my (early post war) boxed Seniors came complete with two barrels - a .22 cal rifled barrel, and a .22 cal smoothbore barrel.
After reading your quoted comment, I had to check the smoothbore barrel to see if there was any sort of marking as you described.
My barrel is marked with a capital "B" on the front of the mounting lug, not an "S".

Trust you to be different Len I did wonder if the B was a poorly stamped S when reading your welcome reply but the photo clearly shows it to be a B. Now I'm even more confused but it is interesting to learn the barrel is marked.

Does anyone else have a Smoothbore Webley pistol (other than a Junior)? If so, does it have any markings on the front of the barrel pivot?

    Kind regards,

    John

yes my smooth bore senior has the letter S stamped on the side of the barrel pivot under the 177 stamping , and has the letter B on the front of the pivot ....

and just noticed my other senior has S stamped under the .22 stamping but the barrel rifled ......

That's strange because l have a post war Senior with an S stamped under .22 on the barrel pivot but no B on the front, but it has rifling which looks to be very worn, could it be that the S stands for shallow rifling ?, l know that it might have had darts shot through it to cause this, but the pistol is in excellent condition, l shall be taking it to the Melbourne fair tomorrow.
