Looking for a quiet back garden plinker. Have had PCP, spring etc, don't mind either.
Anything I should look at that's accurate and quiet? Was thinking HW75?

From my own experience. I find a Crosman 1377 especially on three pumps, and a resprung Tempest (with a Chambers spring) to be a softer firing sound than many. ATB. Pete. Ps. I have the 75 and would say its still a louder crack than the others mentioned.Originally Posted by kippers

Does .177 or .22 make much difference re noise? Was thinking .22 needs less air etc.
As for targets, have knocked up a box with plumbers mate behind the target which catches the pellet silently.

Spring for garden shooting. CO2 and SSP all have a fairly intrusive and obvious signature.
I'd recommend a Tempest or an HW45, both in .22 if keeping things below 15m.

Plumbers mait putty is good to use as a target. Just use bottle tops to print into the putty different size rings. Pick out shot pellets, and smooth out putty again. ATB. Pete.

Some of the co2 type guns can be a little noisy

A Webley Alecto is reasonable second hand. Depending on your neighbours worries about noise, as it makes a good crack on 3 pumps. I went for one to avoid c02 costs, and I can hit spent shotgun shells from across the garden on a good day. You can always get a later one with a threaded barrel for a silencer if noise is an issue.

Yep, nice, simple, quiet and effective.
And I'd also go with Pete's Crosman 1377 recommendation; very quiet and unobtrusive on three or four pumps.
I've also got the HW45 and Brummy Tempest, both pretty quiet.
And my HW40 does, indeed, "crack" a little more.
