    Split barrel band fitting question

In the process of fitting one of these at the moment and am hoping someone can answer a quick question please. There are two fixings, an allen bolt that goes all the way through the first half of the band and secures into the second half and a hollow 'grub screw' that the swivel fits through. My question is should the hollow grub screw go all the way through the first half and secure in the second like the allen bolt?.

The reason I ask is the one I have does not it pokes its nose through the first half and that's it so sits proud of the barrel band you are screwing from.

I hope that makes sense, if someone can clarify if this is usual it would be much appreciated.

    Kindest regards

I'm thinking you mean a barrel swivel stud adaptor ?

If so no, the one I have is pretty much what you describe with a taper hollow screw that remains proud,
I'm wondering if the idea is be tight to the sling fitting to stop rattling on the barrel ?

I've fitted four of these to my underlever rifles, Diana and Weihrauch . The hollow grub screw bit is supposed to push the other side of the band so the clamp parts scissor onto the underlever to make it nice and tight.
In my experience the best thing to do with the hollow grub screw is go to your workshop door and lob it down the garden . I've only managed to fit one succesfully . One didnt even have a good thread on it and the scissor action isnt required to tighten onto the underlever .
The 3 that i've fitted without the hollow grub screw dont move , i used black heatshrink between the jaws and the underlever and they dont move .
To fill the void left when i've not fitted the holow grub screw i've used a short piece of silicone tube ( toy aeroplane fuel tube) which gives the sling swivel a bit of resistance and stops it rattling .
Dont overtighten the hex bolt , they strip , just a drop of loctite to stop it working loose .
Once fitted i've had no issues with these split bands and they do look smart .

Thanks for the replies chaps, this type of a set up does not exactly inspire me with confidence to be honest. I wonder if anyone has had this particular item fail?.

    Kindest regards
