    FWB 65 vs Walther LP53?

Not in terms of how they shoot. I know the Feinwerkbau is more accurate.

Which of the two would you be more likely to keep running for another twenty years. Parts are scarce for both now, but which of the two needs the most maintenance?

Can the Walther leather piston seal be replaced by a synthetic one?

I have worked on both. The 65 is far more sophisticated but if looked after does not give trouble. Once you have fitted a set of seals it should last you the 20 years. The Walther is less complex and a basic springer pistol, very easy to maintain. John Knibbs has the leather piston washer, not sure what Protek supplies. To make a polyurethane one on a lathe would be very easy. To make a choice between these pistols I would decide which one I prefer to shoot, and I would chose the FWB 65. You are optimistc that we can still own them in 20 years time.

T R Robb does a PTFE replacement for the LP53 at a very reasonable price which is tempting..http://www.trrobb.com/Walther_LP_53_..._11830134.aspx
